Additionally, as we depend on local communities for support in a variety of concrete and intangible ways, their well-being is part of our responsibility. Why It Is Important • Provide a variety of amenities to make our plantation workers’ lives conducive, including comfortable living quarters, free school transport and creches for the care of young children • Established several Humana schools and Community Learning Centres for children in our estates • In collaboration with the Community Development Department, we established preschools in remote estates and palm oil mills across Peninsular Malaysia • Employed certified Hospital Assistants for our estate clinics • Initiated Open Days in selected operating units to engage with workers, their dependents and the surrounding communities • Provide support to workers’ dependents, particularly children to ensure access to education • Conduct regular water samplings of rivers that are connected to local communities as part of an initiative to safeguard the rights and well-being of the local residents Our Response Integrated Report 2023 055
