3. Significant accounting judgements and estimates (cont’d.)
(v) Litigation provisions
The Group and the Company are required to assess the likelihood of any adverse judgements or outcome
as well as potential ranges of probable losses arising from court proceedings, lawsuits and other claims. A
determination of the amount of provisions required, if any, for these contingencies is made after careful
analysis of each matter. The required provisions may change in the future due to new developments in
each matter or changes in approach such as change in settlement strategy in dealing with these matters.
The litigation claim against the Group and the Company is disclosed in Note 33.
(vi) Impairment of loans and receivables
The Group and the Company assess at each reporting date whether there is any objective evidence that
a financial asset is impaired. To determine whether there is objective evidence of impairment, the Group
and the Company consider factors such as the probability of insolvency or significant financial difficulties
of the debtor and default or significant delay in payments.
Where there is objective evidence of impairment, the amount and timing of future cash flows are estimated
based on historical loss experience for assets with similar credit risk characteristics. The carrying amount
of the Group’s and the Company’s loans and receivables at the reporting date is disclosed in Note 19.
